Tips for Parents
To disable Safari on the iPhone/iTouch:
- From the main iPhone/iTouch screen choose the “Settings” app.
- Tap “General”.
- Choose “Restrictions” to turn that feature on. If it is not already turned on
you will be prompted to create a 4-digit passcode.
- In the Restrictions menu, drag the slider under the “Safari” option to “OFF”.
We suggest you also disable users from downloading other applications from iTunes
to prevent the user from downloading another unsafe browser. Optionally, disable
YouTube and explicit material from iTunes for additional protection.
NOTE: The Apple SDK does not allow us to make the Bsecure Mobile Browser the
default browser on the iPhone/iTouch. Therefore, if you receive a link in an email
or other app, it will attempt to load it in Safari and fail. With the 3.0 OS, you
can copy/paste the URL into the Bsecure browser. You also cannot sync Safari bookmarks
with Bsecure bookmarks due to limitations of the Apple SDK.
To block specific sites:
- When an objectionable site is viewed, tap the “action” button in the bottom
right-hand corner of the toolbar.
- Select “Block this site”.
- Modify the URL to include the domain name to be blocked. If you want to block
a specific subdirectory of a domain, include a “/” at the end. For example, to block
Google images: www.google.com/#image/
To edit / delete sites in the local block list:
- Tap the “action” button in the bottom right-hand corner of the toolbar.
- Select “Manage block list”.
- You will be prompted to provide a password to access this list. If you forget your
password, you’ll have to delete the app from your iPhone/iTouch and reinstall it in
order to access the block list.
- From there, you can modify or delete sites previously designated to be blocked.
